Colchester Borough Council - Local Plan and Garden Communities Update

A press release has just been issued on behalf of the North Essex Authorities of Colchester, Braintree and Tendring. It is regarding a letter the authorities have received from the Government's Planning Inspector, who has been examining the joint part of the authorities Local Plan regarding Garden Communities.

Three Garden Communities in North Essex had been proposed – Colchester/Tendring borders, Colchester/Braintree borders and West of Braintree. The Garden Communities project is also backed by Essex County Council.

Last year, following an extensive public consultation, the Councils submitted additional evidence to support the Garden Community schemes to the Planning Inspector to make a decision whether they could be developed.

The Councils have now received the Planning Inspector's decision following a public examination of the plans earlier this year. His decision is that, whilst the plan can be made sound and the proposed Garden Community on the Tendring /Colchester border can proceed, the other two should be removed.
