A12 junction 27 to junction 26: resurfacing A120 Kilnwood to Whitehouse: bridge maintenance

Highways England will be carrying out essential maintenance work at the above locations. During this work, they'll be resurfacing the A12 carriageway between junction 27 and junction 26 and carrying out essential bridge maintenance at junction 29.

They plan to carry out this work over 5 months from Monday 18 January to Friday 11 June, with night closures only, working between the hours of 8pm to 6am, subject to weather conditions.

Due to the extensive nature of this project, HE have split the works into two phases and have closely liaised with the local authority to agree the most suitable diversion routes for each phase as detailed below:

Phase 1: A12 junction 27 to junction 26, westbound only, starting Monday 18 January to Friday 19 February (5 weeks)

  • Westbound traffic will be diverted via A12, junction 28 exit slip, turning around to head eastbound, taking the A1232 slip road towards Colchester, then joining the A1232 / Ipswich Road, A133 / Cowdray Avenue / Colne Bank Avenue / Cymbeline Way, then joining the A1124 / London Road and B1408 / London Road before re-joining the A12 at junction 25.

Phase 2: A120 northbound entry slip to the A12 junction 29 closure from Monday 18 January to Friday 12 February (4 weeks)

  • Northbound traffic will be diverted southbound towards the A12 at junction 28, turning around to continue northbound on A12.

Please note: Highway England has only included the closure dates for the month of January and February in this announcement. They will advise when they have further dates confirmed for the remainder of the project.
